Birth is an intense experience: painful, long, empowering, magical and sometimes life-threatening. People that are expecting a child prepare themselves thouroughly for birth but they often forget about the time that comes after. The post partum period defines the first 8 weeks after birth - a time that is marked by slow healing, hormonal chaos, sleepless nights and the beginning of a completely new life for which you can‘t really prepare yourselves for. In our society we don‘t really speak honestly about this time in comparison to pregnancy or birth, it‘s somewhat of a taboo topic and gets repressed, trivialized and forgotten. A helpful and supportive environment is necessary to get through this time as it is such a huge challenge for new parents, but instead the expectations on them, especially on new mothers, are unrealistically high, the support is not a given fact and the healthcare system in Switzerland regarding this period completely outdated. This story talks about women who ecperienced the post partum period in switzerland and had to build up resilience to fill in the gaps our system currently has and therefore demand a change!
