Within The Threads
October 2024
Our short film explores the daily life of Franziska Meister, a 68-year-old wedding dressmaker who has run her shop, Meister Couture, entirely on her own for over 30 years. Originally located in Bern’s old town, she transferred the shop to her apartment when she became a grandmother—a change that allowed her to be closer to family while still working full-time.
Inside her home, Franziska balances work and family, sewing wedding gowns alongside the hum of daily life and caring for her grandchildren. In these scenes, the traditional boundaries of work and home merge: wedding dresses, sewing supplies, and the intimate moments of family life share the same space, creating a unique environment fitting the intimate moment of choosing your wedding gown.
Throughout the film, Franziska reflects on her journey, sharing her self-taught approach and her views on the traditions, expectations, and transformations she’s witnessed in bridal culture over the decades and shows that, if you find your passion, life never stops.
